In the blink of an eye he was across the room at the kitchenette, grabbing a pen and paper, scribbling away a quick message. Gerard snapped the sketch book shut with excessive force, standing abruptly and tossing the book aside. She wore a red and black dress and held black flowers in her hands, and Gerard realized that despite her calm beauty, she was dead. His drawing depicted Nyxia, face extremely pale and grey, her eyes closed as she lie on her back in a rectangular box. This time, however, he was thoroughly startled. He never really payed attention when he drew, but he usually had a good idea what would be on his paper when he actually looked. He smiled to himself and looked down at his sketch, only for his smile to fall completely. His mind finally came back to the present and he could clearly hear Nyxia's light voice as she sang in the shower. He realized with one hundred percent conviction that her well being was far more important than his.

He would be okay taking the death sentence, but he didn't want Nyxia to die too. He could imagine them pouncing on her, tearing her apart as she screamed in agony. In his minds eye, Gerard pictured Nyxia chained and scared, being circled by Pete and his lackeys. He wanted her around for as long as he could keep her.īut the question arose: how much longer could he actually keep her until the Ordinem found them? What would happen to them? There wasn't exactly a law against it, but Slayers were forbidden in California and helping to hide one was most certainly considered treason. He also knew her backstory, who she was and where she came from, and had decided that he wouldn't send her away. It had been a nice change from constantly being mocked or chastised about the whole thing. Also, Nyxia officially knew the full story about Melody and had been extremely sympathetic about it. His coven now knew about Nyxia and had surprisingly agreed to not turn her in. He couldn't focus on much other than what had happened the day before.

The next morning, Nyxia was taking a shower and Gerard sat on the couch, sketching absentmindedly. Gerard really didn't know what was going on with his mind anymore.
